Autumn Reading: Making Theatre [Update]

Back in September I posted a piece on theatre making books, including Kneehigh’s Cookbook, which seemed to have vanished after the company closed back in June 2021. At that point, I could not find any trace of the Cookbook.

The good news is that the Cookbook, along with over 1,500 photographs, posters and programmes from Kneehigh’s 40 years of theatre making are to be made available online as part of a digital archive. The archive is being managed by Falmouth University and builds on the existing collection already held by the university. The project has been made possible by a grant from the Space, an organisation that supports arts and culture organisations to create digital content and experiences. The archive site is https://thisiskneehigh.co.uk.

For a fascinating listen into the work on the archive (and some very interesting comments on the role of creativity in our world) I recommend listening to British Theatre Guide podcast episode on This is Kneehigh Online, where BTG Editor David Chadderton speaks to Kneehigh founder Mike Shepherd (who now runs The Barns) and the project’s lead archivist Sarah Jane from Falmouth University
